Kobe Bean Bryant (born August 23, 1978) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He entered the NBA directly from high school, and has played for the Lakers his entire career, winning five NBA championships. Bryant is a 16-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, and 12-time member of the All-Defensive team. As of March 2013, he ranks third and fourth on the league's all-time postseason scoring and all-time regular season scoring lists, respectively.

Bryant enjoyed a successful high school basketball career at Lower Merion High School in Pennsylvania, where he was recognized as the top high school basketball player in the country. He declared his eligibility for the NBA Draft upon graduation, and was selected with the 13th overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets, then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. As a rookie, Bryant earned himself a reputation as a high-flyer and a fan favorite by winning the 1997 Slam Dunk Contest.

Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal led the Lakers to three consecutive championships from 2000 to 2002. In 2003, Bryant was accused of sexual assault after having sex with a hotel employee in Edwards, Colorado. In September 2004, prosecutors dropped the case after his accuser refused to testify, though a civil suit was later settled out of court. A heated feud between the duo and a loss in the 2004 NBA Finals was followed by O'Neal's trade from the Lakers after the 2003–04 season. Following O'Neal's departure Bryant became the cornerstone of the Los Angeles Lakers franchise. He led the NBA in scoring during the 2005–06 and 2006–07 seasons, setting numerous scoring records in the process. In 2006, Bryant scored a career-high 81 points against the Toronto Raptors, the second most points scored in a single game in NBA history, second only to Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game in 1962. He was awarded the regular season's Most Valuable Player Award (MVP) in 2008. After losing in the 2008 NBA Finals, Bryant led the Lakers to two consecutive championships in 2009 and 2010, earning the NBA Finals MVP Award on both occasions.

At 34 years and 104 days of age, Bryant became the youngest player in league history to reach 30,000 career points. He is also the all-time leading scorer in Lakers franchise history. Since his second year in the league, Bryant has been selected to start every All-Star Game. He has won the All-Star MVP Award four times (2002, 2007, 2009, and 2011), tying him for the most All Star MVP Awards in NBA history. At the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, he won gold medals as a member of the U.S. national team. Sporting News and TNT named Bryant the top NBA player of the 2000s.

It’ll still be strange to see the 2016-17 NBA season kick off without Kobe on the bench for the Los Angeles Lakers, even though an Achilles’ tendon rupture effectively ended his career back in 2013. At the end of the day, Bryant’s career is nothing short of a master class in persistence.

From his 81-point game on a forgettable mid-2000s squad and his five rings to his top-three position on the all-time scoring list and the fact that he took the most missed shots in league history, there was never any doubt that Kobe would keep going at 110% as long as he was able to, which turned out to be just shy of two decades.

You can use the description as derisively or as appraisingly as you want, but out of all the players who tried to be the second Michael Jordan in the modern-day NBA, Kobe was the only one to even come close.

Kobe is awesome. Witnessing his growth as a person and a player, from the greedy new guy from high school who shoots too much to that superstar who can't win games without Shaq, has been incredible. Can't wait to see what he goes on to do next. But rest assured that no matter what he does, it'll be a success because he has that ultra competitive fire in him.

People are selling on Ebay air from Kobe's last game and poop Kobe took after beating the Jazz, claiming you can forever own a piece of Kobe. One of the "air" has 94 bids, reaching $15,300 before it was removed by Ebay. There are still multiple items selling the air, one of which is now selling for US $172.50 and there are 0 bid, but the poop is way more popular, going for US $172.50 and 12 bids.

The current listing for Kobe's air:

I obtained a zip lock bag of air during Kobes 4th quarter performance, it was such a surreal moment for me and my wife. Please note this is for SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY! This is very special for me and a true fan should be able to have an AUTHENTIC moment of this epic night.

I will send pictures of the bag and even more pics of this awesome night from the view of my seat....I am doing it this way because I want to deal with serious inquires only

Please ask any questions you'd like and for pictures of the bag obtained from that historic night!

Dear Kobe,

Thank you. Thank you for your passion, commitment, and dedication to basketball.

Thank you for showing us that 24 is not just the number on your jersey, but the number of hours in a day you must devote to basketball to be the best.

Thank you for giving and giving and giving.

Thank you for pushing through even when your body was screaming “no,” but your mind and your heart kept saying “yes.” For the games that you refused to lose, and those that you always seemed destined to win.

Thank you for your endless drive. For competing with ruthless ambition and playing with reverence and respect. For showing us that there’s no such thing as magic but only hard work.

Thank you for making us smile, laugh, yell, cry, jump out of our seats, and chew on our jerseys.

Thank you for playing the game the way it was meant to be played.

Thank you for teaching us to believe in ourselves even if nobody else does.

For 20 years you gave our game all you had, and we are eternally grateful.

Thank you for loving basketball.

Sincerely,

NBA

I haven't seen anything more impressive than Kobe's final game. It's a very Kobish thing to do. Amazing that he has to impress us one last time, in his final farewell.

Thanks #Utah for giving Kobe the perfect farewell game. Thanks the Lakers all the same. Kobe is lucky to have such great owner, great fans and great teammates. Kevin Garnett secretly wishes he had the same treatment when he retires, but as good as #KG is, he's still a tier below Kobe.

On the final night of a legendary career, Kobe did the following:

  • Set the Record for most FGAs ever at 22-50.
  • Score 60 fucking points
  • Score the game-winner(97-96 mid-ranger)
  • Scored 17 straight Laker points to bring the teamback
  • Most points scored by a player this season
  • The oldest player to score 60 points in a game
  • His 7th career 60 point game and the last
  • His last career game is a 60 point game.
  • Seriously, where did Kobe get all the willpower/powess for this final sprint?

Craziest thing is that he wasn't overly inefficient getting there either. And what a performance in the clutch. In all seriousness I'm so happy Kobe got to go out with a performance like this, instead of retiring in quietness. This is the Kobest way to retire.
